What does the training sessions involve?

Training is best in the pet’s natural environment to assess the pet’s behaviour and how you and your pet interact together. If your concern relates to behaviour outside of the home, foundation training always starts at the home, and then we can work to your desired location. This may involve going for walks together or desensitisation programs with objects (lawn mowers) or other dogs.

Success of the training process relies heavily on your understanding of dog behaviour, your dog’s motivations, barriers and management of situations. My goal as a trainer is to give you the tools to help you with your current concerns but also acquire new skills to help with scenarios that may present themselves later. We achieve this by:

·         Education around normal and abnormal dog behaviour, reading and understanding dog body language

·         Understanding the foundations of dog training and how they learn

·         Appropriate use of training methods

·         Appropriate use of training tools

·         Training guidelines to use

·         Practice time to train your dog

·         Use of educational tools like visual signs, written information, one-on-one coaching

Getting ready for your lesson

To help get you and your dog ready:

·         Time – First lesson is approx 2.5 hours. Follow up lessons 1 hour.

·         Feeding – if your dog is not food motivated then make sure they are a little hungry

·         Treats – Have a selections of yummy treat just in case they don’t like mine. Please advise about food intolerances on form

·         Environment – Keep as normal as possible, try not to change anything

·         Equipment – Have any tools (collar, leads) ready so we can discuss the use of them

·         Questions – Have your questions written down if you want to talk about something

·         Videos – Video any situations you would like to discuss or train in so I can assess behaviour

·         Frequency – Depending on your progress and how quick you want results, I recommend 1-3 weeks between lessons.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact via email or phone. Let’s make your pet PAWSOME!
